Esteban Alcalá is a former transfronterizo that impacted his educational experiences in the U.S. and sense of belonging in both bordertown cities (San Diego and Tijuana). He draws from his lived experiences and current literature to bring this conversation into academia. Kevin Giang is a Residential Director at UC Los Angeles where he works with a very diverse student population and is passionate to empower students that come from racially minoritized and marginalized backgrounds.

The two authors come from different backgrounds to engage with participants in a conversation about transfronterizx students that conduct their studies in the U.S. higher education system, how to best support this student population, the multiple intersectional identities, with a Latinx indigeneity perspective.

Esteban Alcalá (El, He, Him)

Esteban Alcalá (El, He, Him) is a first-generation college student and transfronterizo student that is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Pittsburgh. He has worked with student governments and academic transition programs that work to support students that are racially minoritized and marginalized backgrounds. He is currently coordinator of student engagement and support in the center for diversity and inclusion at Carnegie Mellon University.

Kevin Giang (He, Him)

Ed.D. Student Brandman University

Residential Director, UC Los Angeles

Kevin Giang (He, Him) is a current Ed.D student at Brandman University and Residential Director at UC Los Angeles. He has worked with student government and campus activities at the University of Southern California to create safe, brave, and equitable spaces for students from marginalized backgrounds.
