How to effectively request a meeting and/or advocate to your legislator

Description

The session will be broken up into a couple of segments. First, I will give a background of the work that I do in relation to this topic. This will be brief. Then, I will transition to the exact skills I’ve learned to attract the attention of legislators and their offices into getting a meeting regarding issues that relate to the Latinx undocumented population. One skill will be drafting up a thorough and professional email to your legislator. I will cover for example what to put in your email. Other skills as well will be covered such as taking down the staffers name(s), how to talk to staffers, how to ask for a meeting. Then we will do a letter writing workshop and call to action with legislators

William Reeves is the community policy organizer for Casa San Jose. He started working for Casa San Jose first as an intern and part time while he was still a student at Duquesne University. Upon graduating this past spring, he has fully entered the world of organizing. He represents Casa San Jose on many coalitions
and campaigns which advocate for the rights of immigrants. He is very involved on two statewide campaigns that advocate for state Drivers Licenses and in - state tuition at public universities for undocumented residents within the state. He is in charge of Casa San José´s voter registration and get out the vote efforts. He likes to exercise, be in nature, cook and learn/ read about Latin American History on his free time.
