Description

Learn the difference between race, ethnicity, and nationality and
how people from different cultures identify in different societies. As people begin to
migrate/immigrate and settle internationally, different people from different walks of life identify
with a specific based on their country or familial origin. The preconceived idea of race is a
social construct that causes segregation and creates power structures and causes disparities based
on the color of a person’s skin and their cultural background. Participants in this session will
have an opportunity to discuss the different cultures throughout the world and how the view of
race, ethnicity, and nationality changes the perspective of how a person views race in society.

Dr. Latonya Latamore has an extensive background working in local government in the roles of
contract administration, workforce development, and grant management with a focus in
diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has provided consultation and facilitated conversations on
race in government, faith-based organizations, and non-profit organizations. Her educational
accolades include a BBA in Management, MS in Finance, and Ph.D. in Public Administration
and Public Policy. She believes that everyone’s role in racial harmony is a journey and not a
destination.
